There are separate licenses required for both food and lodging and each must be renewed annually. Each program must meet safety and health regulations as required by the state. Criminal background checks aren’t required by the state of Minnesota and FBI checks are not allowed.

The Minnesota DoH requires individual beds in the sleeping quarters that allow enough space between sleepers. Ventilation with a direct opening to the outside is standard. (4630.2500). Those in charge of preparing food should follow the sanitation requirements set out in 4630.2900 and there should be adequate handwashing and bathing facilities in addition to the water supply needed for consumption and food preparation. Toilet facility regulations require one seat to every 12 campers according to 46030.3400 and adequate supervision is required for each child according to the purposes of the program.
