Boot Camps & Military Schools in Idaho

Military Schools and Boot Camps in Idaho

When teenagers living in Idaho exhibit behavior that may harm themselves or others, worried parents often feel as if they’ve run out of solutions. As painful as it may be to consider, sometimes teens need to be removed from their bad habits and enroll in an Idaho alternative or therapeutic boarding schools. HelpYourTeenNow is an organization of parents and teen advocates who are ready and willing to help you make the right selection of therapeutic boarding schools in Idaho.

Military Schools and Boot Camps Aren’t the Best Option for Troubled Teens

Decades ago, parents could send their unruly children to military school, where they hoped the tough physical activity and strict rules would fix the problem. Today we know that this harsh treatment doesn’t resolve the underlying issues and that there are better options for helping teens make changes. Boot camps and military schools will not give your teen the safe, nurturing, therapeutic environment that leads to overcoming obstacles. When your teen needs to implement big changes in his or her life, turn to programs that really work, not to military schools and boot camps.

Idaho Regulatory Laws

Idaho Code 39-1210 sets the standards for all residential care facilities for children and teens in the state. These facilities are licensed by the Idaho Department of Health and welfare, and they must meet the minimum requirements for intake, physical and emotional care and background checks on all employees, for example. Idaho private schools are not required to be licensed by a state agency, nor must they be registered or approved. Accreditation is optional (Idaho Code §33-119). State certification is a requirement for teachers at private schools (Idaho Code §33-1201) and criminal background checks are required for all employees (Idaho Code §39-1105(3). (U.S. Department of Education, State Regulation of Private Schools, 2009)
