Anasazi Foundation is a wilderness therapy program designed to help teenage boys and girls gain more control over some of the challenges they face, such as substance abuse, behavioral issues and emotional stress. Participants hike and camp in the Arizona wilderness and learn to work together in team-building exercises in a safe and nurturing environment. The program is 49 days long and participants can even earn high school or college credit. Living a primitive-style life and working with dedicated, caring counselors help teenage participants to learn respect and gain peace.
Licensed Faculty at School
Among the staff and faculty at the Anasazi Foundation, the clinical director holds a Ph.D. and is a licensed counseling psychologist. Three of the Anasazi Foundation’s family therapists have master’s degrees in social work, while another family therapist holds a master’s degree in mental health counseling. There are also three registered nurses on the program’s medical staff.
Student Activities Available
The wilderness program at the Anasazi Foundation includes outdoor adventure and survival experiences where participants learn to build their own shelter, cook their own food and hike through the Arizona wilderness, often up to 10 miles per day. This safe and therapeutic environment also allows teens to grow spiritually and mentally as they conquer difficult tasks and learn to appreciate others on their team through group activities.
