Review for Sundance Canyon Academy

Sundance Canyon Academy is an all-boys residential treatment center in Herriman and Draper, Utah. They have 2 campuses, and each campus holds 16 students, adolescent males aged 12- 18. This program is relationship-based, and their whole philosophy is that the opposite of
addiction is connection. In this small boutique-style treatment approach, Sundance allows the students opportunities to be out in the real world often while they participate in snowboarding, rock-climbing, and culinary arts therapy programs. Music and art therapy are also options in treatment as the boys work towards new ways of self-expression. The typical out-of-pocket cost of Sundance Canyon is 12k per month, with insurance often offsetting the cost significantly. The program is 6-9 months in length on average, and the therapist-to-student ratio is 1 to 8, which allows for weekly family and individual therapy sessions for each boy in addition to off-campus activities. Schooling is done online in this program through Alta Independent, enabling students to participate even after they finish at Sundance if they like the program. Another helpful thing to note about Sundance Canyon is that they really do well with students working with Reactive Attachment Disorder and adoption identity struggles as their Clinical Director, Simon Timms, is an adoptive father himself, and he understands the unique challenges and joys this dynamic can bring into a family unit.
