A premiere wilderness therapy program in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Phoenix Outdoor allows troubled teens to address their issues with substance abuse and other mental health issues. Teens are grouped by gender and learn wilderness survival skills and receive therapy. Expeditions are split between wilderness excursions and time at base camp. By removing teens from their typical environment and placing them in the challenging yet rewarding wilderness therapy programs like Phoenix Outdoor, they can commit to making changes in their lives.
Licensed Faculty at School
Staff at Phoenix Outdoor include workers with master’s degrees in social work, licensed counselors, Ph.D’s in psychology, and teachers with master’s degrees in education.
Student Activities Available
Activities are typical for wilderness therapy programs, and include hiking, camping, primitive survival skills, camp chores and occasional adventure activities like canoeing. During down time, participants can play games, write letters, meditate, read and relax.
