Open Sky Wilderness Therapy is a program that immerses troubled teens into nature and an environment of peers and professionals that help them to overcome their challenges. Wilderness therapy programs such as Open Sky focus on whole healing–mind, body and spirit through vigorous outdoor living. The program is especially effective for teens struggling with self-esteem, anger, defiance, anxiety, substance abuse and depression. The goal of Open Sky Wilderness Therapy is to renew each teen’s self-esteem and teach them coping methods and how to maintain healthy relationships.

Open Sky Wilderness Therapy features a leadership team, a clinical team, a wellness and medical team, a family services team, an outreach team, an operations team and a field team. On the clinical team, each therapist has either a master’s or doctorate level degree in behavior therapy. The medical team employs a medical doctor and a doctor of psychiatry, among other support staff.

The activities most common in Open Sky Wilderness Therapy’s programs include hiking, camping, yoga, meditation and other outdoor adventure activities. Also included in a daily schedule are chores, therapy and downtime for participants to explore, read, sketch, write letters or other personal pursuits.
